Day 219 - 18/04/2014 : Mining Museum in Sant Cornelli

Arriving at Sant Cornelli a mandatory stop is the Mining Museum located at the end of the town just at the entrance of the old cool mine.

If you can put up with a little time in the darkness definitely you will enjoy entering to the mine within a little train whereas the instructor explain the history of Bergueda's cool.

Nowadays there isn't mining activity in Berguedà shire but during the 20th Century it was the most representative mining place in Catalonia until it was called of in 1991.

To sum up, a interesting place to know a little of Catalonia history.


Day 218 - 17/04/2014 : Cercs's thermal plant and Baells reservoir

Close to Sant Corneli we can take a picture where Baells and Cercs thermal plant are covered.

The plan has always been a source of disputes between people living in Bergueda shire. On the one hand, the plant has given employment to Cercs inhabitants, but on the other hands a lot of environmental and contamination problems have been risen up during his life.

Finally the plant was closed in 2012 and now there are project to convert it in a biomass plant.

Anyway, this building will be part of the Bergueda's landscape and of course part of its history.



Day 217 - 16/04/2014 : La Baells climbing to Sant Corneli

I think i haven't explained before but we will take some days looking round Bergueda shire again. Definitely we love this place and we are trying every year to come some time and have pleasant days.

Today we are in the road to Sant Corneli, just to find the Mining Museum. This road is named BV-4025 and starts at C-16 after passing the thermal central of Cercs which is now stopped.

Briskly, the road climbs and you have spectacular views of the valley and Baells reservoir. The better of this route is you can stop whenever you like to take pictures because it's a very empty and quiet road therefore you aren't in danger to suffer any accident.

Day 216 - 15/04/2014 : Bergueda's cats having breakfast

Berga Resort has got on as a quite and peaceful rest place to whom need to disconnect from the noise city. Sometimes when we got up and open our hut a family of lovely cats were waiting for us and obviously to have the breakfast.

Is for that we remembered that visit because we bought some milk and cat's delights to food them. You can't realize how happy were the little cats.

Day 215 - 14/04/2014 : Blancafort, Montnsey's oasis

We can't get out Blancafort, is like an oasis behind the mountains. Different type of trees are covering the outdoor pool, we can see some palms and pines sharing the ground fighting to provide the better shore to the guests.

The view from the rooms feels you being in a place further to the big city than you're, only 30km from Barcelona.

At night, soft lights are switch on giving a special and peaceful atmosphere. No more to say, just come !

Day 214 - 13/04/2014 : Blancafort spa, a little luxury

Let's continue looking into others Barcelona shire's.

If you want to have some time for luxury but you can't afford any big waste, try to think in Blancafort spa. Probably you won't find exciting, because it's a question to have some relax time, but it deserves at least a visit.

The Spa is located in La Garriga, a stunning town in Vallés Oriental shire, very close to Barcelona and in the foothills of Montseny range.

Specially, the best of the town is try to book in winter season a room with jacuzzi in the terrace, you will look forward to  fill the bathtub whereas you're getting frozen !

Anyway, a place to take into account, visit a time and consider to get back.



Day 213 - 12/04/2014 : Vic Cathedral

Besides Plaça Major, Vic has others sights to consider and probably the most relevant is Sant Pere Cathedral.

Located at the center of historical town you should have though of your steps if you don't want to miss it because walking quietly on the town could provoke you won't intent to visit !!!

The Cathedral of Sant Pere is the headquarters of Vic's diocese. It's a merge from different styles, from Romanesque to Neoclassical.

The bell tower comes from Romanesque, the cloister from Gothic and S.Bernat Chapel from Baroque. From 1781 to 1803 the Cathedral was transformed and improved following Neoclassical style.

It's time to visit Osona and learn about his history !


Day 212 - 11/04/2014 : Vic market in Plaça Major

I fell in love with Vic when they did the fantastic LIP UD for Catalonia Independence, where after looking round from Vic downtown the film finished at Plaça Major with people singing Segadors and waving great

But Plaça Major is known mostly to celebrate big market days, for example those held on Saturday, you're welcome to visit.

Day 211 - 10/04/2014 : Sant Valentí range - Tona mountains

Looking to the South from 'Pla del Castell' in Tona we will be able to admire Sant Valentí range, we can say they are the Tona mountain's.

You may find his name as 'Serrat de Sant Valentí' but anyway you should learn them as the Tona's mountains. The highest peak is at 851 meter and there the Congost river start his flood until reach Besós.

Definitely if you came to Osona you should get round to take a look on these mountains and its trails, it deserves that.

Day 210 - 09/04/2014 : Tona, Sant Andreu church

The most relevant monument from Tona is Sant Adreu church. Located at Pla del Castell this church watch over Tona and Osona shire from his privileged position.

The church comes from Romanesque style although the bell tower is from Baroque and is thought it's was built in the 11th Century from the runes of a old church.

 It was furbished up in 1989 to celebrate his 1100 years of existence and nowadays it's in a good state allowing verify the transformation of the church from pre-Romanesque to Gothic.

To sum up, a stunning place to visit and learn about the Catalan Romanesque.




Day 209 - 08/04/2014 : Tona, Torre del Moros

'Pla del Castell' is the reference place if you visit Tona someday. You should get out of a quiet and bored town and climb this little hill to admire Osona shire and the town itself.

However, in the hill there are others interesting point besides the panoramic view, Torre dels Moros is one of them. This tower is said to have been built in the IX or X Century and it's located on the North East at the hill just 200m from San Andres Church.

The Catalan flag behind complete a wonderful landscape, isn't it?

Day 208 - 07/04/2014 : Osona shire lookout from Tona Castle area

Today we start a tour into Osona shire, undoubtedly the icon from central Catalonia.

Tona is the third town you can reach driving to north onto C-17 Road, why not drop in on your way to Vic? The special feature from this town is the spectacular view from his castle hill where you can admire Osona shire and the nearby Pyrenees.

Tona is located in the trough known as 'Plana de Vic', a place without almost any mountain but surrounded by different ranges as Guilleries and Montseny.

Entering Tona you should follow left signs onto Sant Andreu church, in a few minutes you will arrive at the hill.

Day 207 - 06/04/2014 : The roofs of Vilassar

We are very lucky to live in Vilassar. When we got on to buy our flat in our town we didn't realize how much happy would be our future.

We don't use as much as we could, but we've a good terrace in our flat where the contrasts of the town can be observed : the Corredor range on the left, the roofs and village gardens on the center and the sea on the right.

It's a simple way of life, but it's wonderful, isn't it?


Day 206 - 05/04/2014 : Torrelles del Foix, pure Penedés

I hope this view won't put you off on your driving but the picture was taken from the road between Cal Rosal neighborhood and Torrelles de Foix downtown.

We've moved to Penedés shire, the wine landscape from Catalonia. The green fields notice us the end of the summer and the soon start of the vintage.

What are you thinking about looking to the countryside? The best wine of the world is close to be produced !!!



Day 205 - 04/04/2014 : Lluçanés panoramic view

Coming back to the balcony of Prats de Lluçanes, behind the church, now we can admire a fully panoramic view of Lluçanes.

Looking to the right the Pyrenees, straith from your eyes Osona shire and looking to the left Moianés shire.

Keep in mind your neck when you are moving your head !


Day 204 - 03/04/2014 : La Baells reservoir

Just below the High Pyrenees the Catalan reservoirs store water to provide all the country during the year and above all during the summer, when the waste of water increases.

Baells is the reservoir belonging to LLobregat river and located in Berguedà shire. The dam is under the control of Cercs village and it can be visited from Tuesday to Friday whenever a book was arranged.

The construction of the reservoir brought about some impact in the shire, with the disappearance of Sant Salvador de la Vadella and Baells towns.

We can obtain good panoramic views from the reservoir and the surroundings, for example from Cercs as the picture shown.



Day 203 - 02/04/2014 : 'Peus de porc amb castanyes'

One of the most delicious dishes you should taste in Catalonia, above all in winter season, is the 'Peus de Porc'.

It's difficult to translate to English (Pork feet) therefore it's better to learn the name in Catalan and look up at the menus.

There some ways to enjoy  'Peus de Porc', people tend to taste grilled but in the restaurant 'El Recó de l'Avi' from Guardiola de Berguedà, we tasted them in a stew cooking way with chestnuts. It were delicious !

Day 202 - 01/04/2014 : Berga and La Patum

Now we're walking on Berga downtown. The Bergueda shire's main city belongs to the World Heritage due to La Patum.

Patum is the festival of the senses and feelings. Coming from a medieval theater performance it has become a great festival nowadays when people not only see, it's a player !

The core of the performance in Plaça Sant Pere in Berga where we can find some figures in the walk referencing Patum.

Undoubtedly, it's a event that must be seen and experienced, next June is your time.

Day 201 - 31/03/2014 : Lluçanes lookout

Behind Mare de Deu de Lurda church an unforgettable landscape is waiting us. Look at this, what do you think? The splendorous Lluçanes is over our feet with the snowed Pyrenees on the horizon.

Wonderful view of Central Catalonia in our way to another mountain week-end. Open your eyes through Osona shire, undoubtedly the hearth of the central country.

Day 200 - 30/03/2014 : Mare de Deu de Lurda

Great day, there 200 entrances in our blog !!!! How many will be needed until we were a country?

Don't worry there are a lot of pictures and places to show from our wonderful Catalonia.

Today we are in the Lluçanés balcony, the church of Mare de Deu de Lurda. To reach the special place you should arrive at Prats de Lluçanés and follow the signs to the church.

You can't get out, the best hasn't come yet !



Day 199 - 29/03/2014 : Sta Eulàlia de Puig-Oriol

Santa Eulàlia de Puig-Oriol belongs to Lluçà town. It's a little village born in the XVIII century but formed as an inhabited village apart from the XIX village.

The bishop from Lluçà ordered to create a new church in the town which was finished in 1855, at this moment the church is considered a parish and the old one from Lluçà is abandoned.

Because the village was built in a cattle way it's resulted a large and thin town with house around Carrer Major.

Anyway, another beautiful place to visit if you're looking round Lluçanés.
