Day 471 - 27/12/2014 : Catalan luxury

Having reached Cala Pedrosa we were shocked by seeing a gorgeous house in front of our eyes. Surrounded by green and tall pines the house didn't seems to finish !

'Definitely S'Agaro isn't for us', we though, being aware of the extremely high standard of living on this area. Anyway, we live in a tiny and not as luxurious house as it, but we are glad to enjoy it all the time instead of having an occasionally occupied big estate when you should spend more time than everywhere, as we knew that day.

We guessed where the owners would be wasting their time outside !!

Day 470 - 26/12/2014 : Llotja de la Senya Blanca

Far from being a simple connection between two beaches, S'Agaró Cami de Ronda provide us with the views of the S’Agaró coastline that have turned them into a beautiful walk which both natives and visitors alike enjoy taking whilst admiring the spectacular views.

One of these is the place called 'Llotja de la Senya Blanca', the most representative building inside S'Agaró. It's a vast estate initially dedicated to pasture but turned into the current magnificent building after Ensesa family, the owners, ordered its construction.

Undoubtedly, a place to discover !

Day 469 - 25/12/2014 : Catalan houses in Cami de Ronda from S'Agaró to Sa Conca

First of all, Merry Christmas !!!!

After a few minutes walking from S'Agaró beach you will start to reach luxurious houses along the seaside, most of them with the Catalan flag moving due to the sea breeze.

The path is approximately 1.5 km long and can be completed in 20-25 minutes, in which one can contemplate the immensity of the sea and the beauty of the rocks that provide its outline, and which are surrounded by the characteristic Mediterranean flora of Empordà.

Even in this special day you should think to have a pleasant walk to burn calories, why not?

Tuesday 23 December 2014

Day 467 - 23/12/2014 : S'Agaró beach

S'Agaro's main beach is a long stretch of beautiful sand and there are many further sandy coves and rocky areas to explore.

Being so long  and comfortable place it's worth it to spend some days having a peaceful rest.

Equipment and tuition for a variety of water-sports can be hired; besides there are some diving schools.

S'Agaró remains full of life all year round, with a complete set of events and festivals, such as Carnival, the Beer Festival and the Medieval Market in Castell d'Aro.

Businesses and other organizations also hold conferences and conventions here, shaping the projects and innovations of the future.

Definitely, a place to visit!

Monday 22 December 2014

Day 466 - 22/12/2014 : S'Agaró panorama

South east of Girona, roughly midway between Lloret de Mar and Begur, is the fabulous beach-side resort of S'Agaro.

Elegant S'Agaró sits alongside cosmopolitan Platja d'Aro, where a recognized circular route skirts the peaceful streets of the old town. Castell d'Aro is the historical center, and has preserved all its medieval charm.

The borough's three dynamic, attractive towns complement each other perfectly, and combine sport, culture, leisure and business in a natural setting, focused on the delightful seafront, with its impressive, endless beach and idyllic little bays.

Amazing !

Sunday 21 December 2014

Day 465 - 21/12/2014 : Sleeping rocks

What about these rocks? Doesn't seems they are sleeping and floating on the sea? The shapes looks like a beautiful woman sunbathing but actually these rocks have a Catalan name, people call them as 'El Drac adormit' or the sleeping dragon.

Unconscious young boys can be seen climbing them and jumping to the sea without be aware of the low deep of the sea on this place causing it isn't recommended to reach by boat.

Anyway, another sight to be caught in a picture !!!

Day 464 - 20/12/2014 : Estreta Cave to the North

However, if you are coming Cala Estreta from the South side you will be reaching the cave from a pine forest, which it isn't a bad option instead of seaside from the North, above all if the sun is working hard !

Being not larger than 100 meters you should realize the beach won't be packed anytime therefore it's worth it wake up early to reach it at first time on the morning, when you might be able to admire a wonderful sunset.

Don't forget your foods and drinks there isn't services in the cave, only some bins for your trash. Instead of being an inconvenient the less services the less crowd will arrive.

Enjoy your journey and respect the environment !

Day 463 - 19/12/2014 : Estreta Cave panorama

The beauty of Cala Estreta can't be worked out easily. Being an unspoilt area which only can be accessed by walk, indeed not an easy walk, no signs of development and human occupation exists.

It seems people says the most panoramic way to access it is from the North, starting at Cala el Crit o Golfet walking over Cami de Ronda is on the seaside allowing admire another nature sight in Costa Brava : Illes Formigues.

After passing Cap de Planes cave you will see the firsts rocks of Cala Estreta. Are you ready for a fantastic journey on the beach?

Saturday 20 December 2014

Day 462 - 18/12/2014 : Reaching Estreta cave

Cala Estreta belongs to Palamós town and, undoubtedly, is one of the hidden and most impressive caves in Costa Brava due to its breathtaking environment and valuable landscape.

To enjoy a journey in this fantastic place you've to walk between 20 and 30 minutes from El Castell beach, it isn't a short walk but definitely it deserves it. When you will be go down the stairs and come across with the landscape shown in today's picture the effort did before didn't matters to you.

Anyway, the walk isn't steeped at all, therefore no excuses !!!

Day 461 - 17/12/2014 : Sanià cave

Having been this fantastic place we were looking forward to buying our own ship to turn up there freely !!! Unspoilt and being difficult to reach it help to the conservation of this stunning cave, avoiding the development around its surroundings.

The only way to go down into the sea is walking from Castell beach more or less 1 kilometer, then walk carefully on the rocky and steeped track, it deserves take some risk to look into the paradise.

As a curious fact, Truman Capote was spending 3 summer time here in the Sixties and it's said he thought to buy the vast ground around only for his own enjoyment, fortunately he didn't !!!

Day 460 - 16/12/2014 : Cami de Ronda from Castell beach

Undoubtedly, one of the best tracks from Cami Ronda belongs to Baix Empordà. Starting at Castell Beach to the North until reach Cap Roig we will able to see the magnificent Mediterranean in differents ways.

Just after climbing to Iberian settlement in Castell beach the path enters in a pine forest area giving comfortable shadows to us if we are walking under the strong summer's sun.

The cliffs are close to you then be careful on the approach to the edge.

Enjoy the view !

Monday 15 December 2014

Day 459 - 15/12/2014 : Foradada cave

Just behind the Iberian settlement located in Castell beach you'll come across with one of that places which stops your breath : Foradada cave.

Unspoilt and wild, it should be accessed by little boats because trying to go down from the settlement might be a daunting challenge.

Probably you won't find a lot of places with such a fantastic beauty, it's a shame that it's being known with the pass of time and so many boats are visiting every day.

Anyway, boasting with clear waters it's a paradise for those practicing snorkeling and diving. Enjoy !!!

Sunday 14 December 2014

Day 458 - 14/12/2014 : Castell beach shot

Definitely, Castell beach is such a little paradise. Having been saved from the development the clear waters and the walk paths on the surroundings area the best sights of this unspoilt are.

Even it should be packed in summer, there are so many choices to avoid the crowd, and the best one is entering the forest just on the left to discover others stunning caves as Foradada and Cala Estreta, which will be visited in the following days.

Bring your camera, you won't give up to take pictures !

Day 457 - 13/12/2014 : Castell beach panorama from the Iberian settlement

One of the choices to have a walk from Castell Beach is taking the steeped path on the left side which led to the Iberian settlement on the top of the hill.

From there you should take fantastic pictures from the beach and the surroundings as well as learn about ancient cultures by visiting the settlement.

Don't be left out! Next summer come live the experience of Castell Beach, and we promise you will not be disappointed!

Day 456 - 12/12/2014 : Castell beach panorama

What is there to do in Castell beach?

Diving in the crystalline water, walking along the old smugglers' path around the coast or exploring the ancient Iberian settlement on a promontory at the eastern end of the beach.

Or simply take a rest and enjoy a pleasant sunny day, why not? There is a laidback shack on the beach for cold beers, seafood and sandwiches opened only in the peak season, from July to September.

You should expect some crowd in peak season, locals from the pretty seaside and inland villages nearby, second-homers from Barcelona and anyone looking for a bit of peace are coming to this paradise.

Enjoy !

Day 455 - 11/12/2014 : Waking up at Castell beach

Castell's Beach is close to Palamós on the North way reached from C-31 motorway leaving in the exit with the sign 'Platja el Castell'.

Why to go? To banish for ever your perception of the Costa Brava as package tour hell. Just north of Palamós, Castell is the only sandy beach on this part of the coast to have escaped development, owing to vociferous local opposition. There are some beautiful little coves on either side of it, concealed by pine forests.

We will spend some days showing us this unspoilt environment, you can't get out !

Day 454 - 10/12/2014 : Palamós

Palamós is one of the main cities of Baix Empordà region and it's located at the northern end of a large bay, which is popular for swimming, sailing and windsurfing.

The town is by-passed by the C31 motorway which connects the coastal towns of the central Costa Brava with Girona. Palafrugell lies 8.5 km to the north and Castell-Platja d'Aro 7 km to the south.

The town is a major port (with the closure of Sant Feliu the only commercial harbour in the Province of Girona) with one of the last remaining fishing fleets on this part of the Mediterranean coast. It is famous for the locally caught prawns, in Catalan 'gambles', which are really appreciated by local and foreign people.

Would you like to taste a 'gambes' plate while looking to the Mediterranean? Come here !

Day 454 - 09/12/2014 : Sa Riera, Port d'en Pins cave

Port d'en Pins cave is located just on the right side on Sa Riera's main beach and it can be reached by foot in no more than 2-3 minutes walking on Cami de Ronda behind the little pier.

If you want to avoid the crowd from Sa Riera beach, Port d'en Pins is the best choice, a hidden place to be discovered.

Clear and fresh waters are the main attractions however no services are available, although being close to Sa Riera main beach this isn't a big problem.

Enjoy your bath !

Saturday 13 December 2014

Day 453 - 08/12/2014 : Sa Riera Cami de Ronda path to the south

Sa Riera has traditionally been a fishing village, and therefore still remain at the forefront some of these houses, evidence of a past still alive in direct contact with nature. You should check this fact walking on the Cami de Ronda.

From Sa Riera begins, both sides, two separate coastal paths. To the south, further the small cove of Port del Pi, the path leads to a long stretch of unspoilt coastline forming the Natural Reserve of Ses Negres, a protected marine area of a great ecological value. The brown color of the rocks is really unique.

Amazing !!!

Day 452 - 07/12/2014 : Sa Riera coming from Illa Roja

Coming from to the north, once we cross the creek called Cala del Rei, with its excellent viewpoint, we turn up to Sa Riera having a fantastic view inside Camí de Ronda.

In that point you should discover that  it’s the most visited cove in Begunr and the one that offers more services, you can easily look for information and  you will find out what you can do on it.

Just behind our foots some people were doing snorkeling and others ones simply were taking a relaxing bath inside the clear water.

Definitely tranquil and stunning !

Day 451 - 06/12/2014 : Jumping into the sea

Illa Roja invites young people, and not as young as we could realize, to make risky jumps from the rocks. First of all they have a difficult climbing sometimes to the top of the island, secondly the jump is preparing and finally the adrenalin is freed !

Besides, one of the main attractions Illa Roja cove offers to the bathers are the snorkel activities. Around the big red rock in front of the beach grows an important underwater population of fish and other marine species.

So don’t forget your dive mask to enjoy this opportunity when come to Illa Roja beach !

Day 450 - 05/12/2014 : Paradise Lost !!!

Probably one of the most photographed scenery on the Costa Brava. Spectacular, unique in its kind … so is Illa Roja cove, a very exclusive creek mainly due to the great mass of reddish rock in front of the beach.

Illa Roja cove length is about 120 meters and a width of 20, being flanked on the rear wall by a huge rock on which the mentioned coastal path runs. Illa Roja is the only beach in Begur where you can practice nudism.

Make sure you include this beach in your list, it's a must-see !!!

Friday 12 December 2014

Day 449 - 04/12/2014 : El Racó and Illa Roja together

The entrance to El Racó beach from Pals is a rocky area when young people uses to jump to the sea, it's not as dangerous as jumping from Illa Roja itself buy sometimes people don't realize what are doing it.

El Racó is a good option for level-headed person, you should relax and let your mind escape from the daily struggle. Spending time in this beach is worth it, definitely for us is one of the best beaches in Catalonia (probably competing with Golfet or Cala Estreta).

Enjoy the beach !

Tuesday 9 December 2014

Day 448 - 03/12/2014 : Pal's beach

Usually crowed in high summer season, Pals beach becomes the perfect place for  beach games and watersports.

On a coast characterised by rocky coves, Pals beach is a stretch of fine golden sand more than two miles long and around 40 yards wide.

Surprisingly for the Mediterranean, there are some decent waves when the Levante or Tramontana winds are blowing, making it good for surfing, windsurfing or kitesurfing. There is plenty of space for volleyball and other beach games, and you can sign up for boat and diving trips to the Isles Medes further up the coast.

Enjoy the sun, enjoy Costa Brava, enjoy Catalonia !!!

Day 447 - 02/12/2014 : Platja el Racó

Before reaching the spread Pal's beach we should stop in the quiet el Racó, which it is nudist as Illa Roja. Racó has comfortable shadow areas to have a rest from the shinning sun.

The beach belongs to Pals but it's nowhere near crowded as Pals main beach therefore it's a good alternative to avoid noising people even the young teenagers will be jumping from the rocks.

Don't forget to write down in your agenda !

Monday 1 December 2014

Day 446 - 01/12/2014 : Paradise

Walking on the 'Cami de Ronda' track from Sa Riera to Pals is a breathtaking experience. After a steep stretch the Mediterranean sea opens splendid showing us the paradise.

A specie of rock converted in a beautiful island making an unforgettable shot. Pines and rocks are covering the path until we arrive to the balcony to Illa Roja cave, a nudism paradise in Costa Brava.

You should continue the path until reach el Racó beach and finally the wide Pals beach.

Enjoy your walk !
