Day 500 - 25/01/2015 : La Llenya cave seabed

Great number for today ! We've reached 500 days publishing Catalonia pictures and we will continue until our country finally become a new free country in Europe.

But, let's continue in our seabed tour around L'Ametlla. During our journey in La Llenya cave we spent some time doing snorkeling and we were able to able wonderful sea life.

The rocky environment help the specie's variety giving a good chance for divers to discover them.

Enjoy your dive !

Day 499 - 24/01/2015 : L'Ametlla seabed

There are a lot of things to do in L’Ametlla de Mar. The seabed in this area is a true gem in of itself. It’s no surprise that many scuba diving groups come here to discover its sea bottom and dive in these crystal clear waters.

There are many companies that specialize in scuba diving; which offer doing a diving baptism if you do not have a license. If you are a more experienced diver you will discover the marine fauna at many levels or even explore the 5 underwater wrecks that sleep in these waters.

Or just you should do a pleasant snorkeling, you might discover amazing sea life as today's picture !

Tuesday 27 January 2015

Day 498 - 23/01/2015 : Cala de la Llenya

Let's move on to the South, specifically to the Baix Ebre shire into the domains of l'Ametlla de Mar. We wanted to discover something different from Costa Brava and we were really impressed by the beauty of Cala de la Llenya cave when we stayed on during a day.

Being on the last week of August we were able to enjoy the peaceful area and diving almost alone in the beach, it was amazing !

To reach this cave you should look for the known but crowded Hotel L'Ametlla and follow the signs to the cave, it's only 2 kilometers from.

Enjoy !

Day 497 - 22/01/2015 : Coastalpath to Aiguafreda

As soon as you arrive to Sa Tuna cove (end of the old path from Begur town), if you want to continue discovering the wonderful Begur surroundings, you will have two possibilities.

One option is to continue following the beautiful coastal path (camí de ronda) to the north until you reach the small and rocky Aiguafreda Cove (10 minutes from Sa Tuna) and then travel further north until Punta de la Creu.

During the path you will leave behind sumptuous mansions some of them with its own pier, incredible !!!

Wednesday 21 January 2015

Day 496 - 21/01/2015 : Aiguafreda panorama

Located to the east of Begur, is the Aiguafreda cove, a small cove sheltering under the Puig Rodó hill, with a small quay for boats.

The tranquil environtment that surrounds it, along with the water source available, makes it a perfect place to celebrate family meals while enjoying the beauty of the landscape.

This cove is naturally protected by the Punta des Plom and the Cap Sa Sal, which preserves almost intact its ancient beauty, and is remarkable for its calm and quality of its waters, pure and crystalline.

Stunning !

Day 495 - 20/01/2015 : Begur cape

Begur cape is the eastern place of Begur range which beside Sant Sebastia cape and the caves between them make up the most representative from Costa Brava spots.

The cliffs from Begur cape belong to the Nature Reserve of Begur Mountains which are the seaside piece of Gavarres range by creating a significant number of litlte slopes which are converted in cliffs when reaching the sea.

Due to the rugged terrain in this point, Cami de Ronda left the seaside to border the cape by inside paths.

Unspoilt Catalonia !!!

Day 494 - 19/01/2015 : Looking at AiguaFreda

Being in Es Plom viewpoint we should take a look on the North, we will come across with Aiguafreda's view, the last cave which belongs to Begur.

All the surroundings of Begur provide us fantastic Costa Brava spots but undoubtedly the unspoilt Es Plom area is conceivably one of the best and well preserved.

But the fact is the coastal path can't continue to the South because we face directly with the rocky Begur cave therefore we should lead to the North to continue our walk.

Enjoy !

Sunday 18 January 2015

Day 493 - 18/01/2015 : Sa Tuna's panorama

Definitely, from the Es Plom cave viewpoint you may take one of your best Costa Brava panoramas. You will be able to capture AiguaFreda domains on the North until Es Plom point on the South all of them surrounded by fresh pines.

Writing down these stories can't create the atmosphere you will feel by walking on these places, it's a question to come here and head off to Begur area.

You can't get out !!!

Day 492 - 17/01/2015 : Es Plom

Punta d'es Plom is protecting Sa Tuna from waves by an arm of rock a few hundred meters from the shore. But Es Plom itself is a paradise.

Being difficult to reach only by going down by a rocky and steeped path no crowd will be found in that place therefore it's a great choice if you want to stay on calm.

Some little boats could be seen but they don't disturb you because it isn't allowed to reach the shore's cave all that we should come across with are beautiful marine species moving inside the cave.

Amazing !

Day 491 - 16/01/2015 : Sa Tuna from Camí de Ronda

Coastal path's starting in Sa Tuna offers two main chances : going to the South you will be walking to Es Plom point and Begur cape.

The path is rapidly beginning with a short but steeped slope which drives us to a fantastic view from the cave, the clean and green water merges with the picturesque fishermen house's, undoubtedly an unique spot.

In addition, pines create a fresh atmosphere and allow to decorate our pictures. Going on to the South we will reach soon the view from Es Plom, which will be stunning.

Would you like to continue?

Day 490 - 15/01/2015 : Sa Tuna seabed

Probably it isn't the best place to do snorkeling in Costa Brava but Sa Tuna offers a variety range of species on the background.

Presenting a rocky seabed there is a hidden beauty along the colorful rocks, diverse groups of little fish come around us giving the chance to practice wit snorkel, even the winds reigning the area Sa Tuna has a quite calm environment.

The seabeds at the centre of the beach of Sa Tuna are basically large sandy extensions replaced by patches of Neptune grass towards the beach of S’Eixugador and the point of Es Plom.

Would you like to try some diving?

Day 489 - 14/01/2015 : Sa Tuna cave

Sa Tuna is another one of the most beautiful and picturesque creeks of the Costa Brava. Located in the village of Begur, in the heart of the Costa Brava, Sa Tuna surprises visitors with its small size and its beauty.

Protected from waves by an arm of rock a few hundred meters (la punta d’es Plom), it is an extremely quiet corner of the Costa Brava the days of summer when bathers come to enjoy its wonderful landscape, the environment … and transparent waters, with a dark sea background.

The cove has its origin in the seaside neighborhood of the same name. Even today the houses are preserved, today holiday homes that haven’t lost their charm, all providing a stunning sea view. Not only Sa Tuna residents have their boats here, but also fishermen from the town center of Begur, which, before motor vehicles invaded our roads, had to travel on foot from the center through the old road, which is still preserved and is appropriately marked as pathway.

It deserves you spent a day here !

Day 488 - 13/01/2015 : Illa Roja

Probably one of the most photographed scenery on the Costa Brava. Spectacular, unique in its kind … so is Illa Roja cove, a very exclusive creek mainly due to the great mass of reddish rock in front of the beach.

The creek, formed by a long beach, is located between north Begur and south Pals. In fact it is part of the landscape through which runs the coastal path between Sa Riera (in Begur) and Platja del Raco (in Pals).

One of the main attractions Illa Roja cove offers to the bathers are the snorkel activities. Around the big red rock in front of the beach grows an important underwater population of fish and other marine species. So don’t forget your dive mask to enjoy this opportunity when come to Illa Roja beach.

Friday 16 January 2015

Day 487 - 12/01/2015 : Diving !!!

Illa Roja cave induces to take spectacular pictures as the one shown today. Young and probably little crazy people are continously climbing the rocks and jumping to the sea, sometimes from more than 10 meter height.

Located in an idyllic place among rocks and pine trees, the Illa Roja beach is known for its clear waters and the prominent reddish rocky island that presides over it which people use to show off their bravery.

Be careful, above all if you're drunk !!!

Thursday 15 January 2015

Day 486 - 11/01/2015 : Getting dark in S'Agaró

S'Agaró at night looks like a paradise. Seagulls were flying looking for dinner whereas little boats tried to find the best location for the sunset ever supervised by the gulls.

We were in the way to have a pleasant dinner but we had to stop our walk to admire the Mediterranean wrapped in such a impressive beauty, the treeless scrub offered little but a gentle climate, splendid isolation and dazzling views.

Enjoy your sunset time !

Wednesday 14 January 2015

Day 485 - 10/01/2015 : Cliff Jumping in S'Agaró

Cliff jumping is a noticed known sight in S'Agaró. On the South side of the beach young people queue waiting his orderly turn to jump to the sea.

It's seems a dangerous activity at first sight, however young children can be seen climbing on the rocks and jumping repeatedly with their parent's approval.

Looking at internet, you will realize that it's an usual activity in S'Agaró, then, why not try it?

Sunday 11 January 2015

Day 484 - 09/01/2015 : Platja d'Aro from Sa Cova walkpath

We were lucky in 2011 when the Cami de Ronda track between Sa Cova and Cala del Pi was reopened after being restored.

The year before was considerably damaged due the big snow in March causing landslides of the stone arches existing just leaving Sa Cova.

Nowadays, great pictures can be taken from the arches, including Sa Cova corridor and the main Platja d'Aro beach.

Don't forget your camera !!!

Friday 9 January 2015

Day 483 - 08/01/2015 : Cala del Pi

Located only 10 minutes from Platja d'Aro beach following Camí de Ronda, Cala del Pi is probably the best spot in the area.

Having been protected by tall and steeped rocks it remains an unspoilt land between the exploited Costa Brava. The cleanest waters in kilometers could be found here therefore it's a good choice to do snorkeling.

The luxury 5 start hotel Salles Hotel & Spa just behind the cave could offers to you a dreamed Costa Brava holidays.

Would you like to test?

Day 482 - 07/01/2015 : Sa Cova cave from Cami de Ronda

Having a beautiful landscape from the ground, undoubtedly the best view from Sa Cova cave can be taken from Cami de Ronda.

As this pathway's track is plenty of pine around the edges we can take fantastic pictures using the trees as improvised decoration.

All the walkway between Platja d'Aro and Belladona cave is plenty of stunning spots therefore it's an advisable activity if you fed up with the crowd in the beach.

Enjoy your walk !!!

Tuesday 6 January 2015

Day 481 - 06/01/2015 : Sa Cova cave in the morning

We are moving today on the North of S'Agaró, to a very known town called Platja d'Aro. Probably it was one of the first Costa Brava sights in the 70's however the main beach is usually crowded therefore the best choice is move to the caves which are located on the North of the village.

Sa Cova cave is a tiny beach with only 50m. long and 20m. width located beside Rovira beach, the last Platja d'Aro domain.

In the past this tiny beach was a fishermen place, now it's a quiet place in the early morning which becomes crowded after 11:00 AM, you've been noticed on that !!!

Wake up early !!!

Day 480 - 05/01/2015 : S'Agaró Hotel

S'Agaró hotel is a reliable choice if you want to avoid overpriced hotels in S'Agaró. With a pleasant environment, vast garden with a large pool and comfortable shadows to have a rest, it becomes an advisable place to spend some holiday days.

We stayed a large weekend in summer and we've to say we'll come back some day. Being a seaside hotel the price isn't a big deal even in high season, the rooms are garden and sea view and it's close to the beach, Cami de Ronda and the best restaurants in the village.

Definitely, a very good recommendation !

Sunday 4 January 2015

Day 479 - 04/01/2015 : S'Agaró beach huts

S'Agaró beach offers a picturesque scene each summer : a large row of tiny and colorful are spread out along the sea walk creating a fantastic visual effect.

Usually the huts are located in alternative color giving the feel you're seeing a rainbow or something like that. These huts are available only on summer season which can be rented in a weekly basis, during October they are packed and keep safe to the next year !.

Ancient traditions should be preserved and the atmosphere created by this huts is a real sensation of coming back to the past.

Would you like to rent one of these next summer?

Saturday 3 January 2015

Day 478 - 03/01/2015 : Punta d'en Pau

Just before taking the last curve to S'Agaró we came across with an idyllic sea landscape, this is Punta d'en Pau.

Two main rocks are creating this fantastic sight separated by a narrow channel when it's possible to see people diving or snorkeling.

Fishing is likely another choice to enjoy this nature and unspoilt area, a little ground's piece surrounded by the vast Mediterranean.

Would you like to explore it?

Friday 2 January 2015

Day 477 - 02/01/2015 : Pedrosa cave in the afternoon

Undoubtedly Pedrosa cave is so far beautiful in the afternoon than in our previous walk in the morning. Coming to the South we were able to admire how the pines in the background created such a wonderful picture, definitely better than we caught in the morning.

Water was crystal and clear invoking us to have a bath but we were hurry, we should had to arrive on time to S'Agaró for a special dinner, therefore we took with the landscape in and we continued our walkway.

We were a bit disappointed by not have enough time to stay on there and enjoy the peaceful cave but it's a excuse to come back any other day, don't you?

Probably next summer !!!

Thursday 1 January 2015

Day 476 - 01/01/2015 : Coastal painting

Hello my friends, first of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

Today is a cold day in Catalonia, we are nowhere near warmer than our last pictures when we showed Costa Brava landscapes and stunning beaches, and we will continue some additional days looking into the coastal beauty, then you can't get out !!

It's time to come back from Sa Conca to S'Agaró and you wouldn't realize how different the landscape is from the opposite way in the morning. For example when you arrive at the viewpoint (in Catalan called 'El Mirador' thw view to the South is miles different than the one to the North.

We were able to take a picture simulating a painting with the rocky relief across the walkway.

Really, really amazing !

Day 475 - 31/12/2014 : Sa Conca beach panorama

The extension, good services, easy parking and scenic beauty we can find in Sa Conca make it one of the preferred coves by many tourists who enjoy the Costa Brava in this area close to Platja d’Aro.

The cove is surrounded by a lush pine forest, so the environment is truly natural. On the left, towards Platja d’Aro, the walkway (Cami de Ronda) leads to the harbor of Marina de Port d’Aro. Due to the proximity of this port is not uncommon to see boats to anchor next to the cove.

It should be noted that the Cala Sa Conca is clearly divided into two zones. The rocky promontory facing the cove is the Illot de Sa Conca. The most extensive is the Cala Sa Conca itself, and the smallest, sometimes with rocky underwater floor is the Cala dels Oriços or s’Oriçar, named so for the presence of sea urchins at the bottom.

Day 474 - 30/12/2014 : Sa Conca beach

Finally we reach our destination !!!  Sa Conca beach is located next to the village of SAgaró and the coastal path around it.

It is a large cove about 400 meters long by 40 meters width very familiar and with excellent services, therefore is likely to be very crowed in summer. The golden sand is medium, and the entrance to the sea has a certain slope.

After the walk from S'Agaró it's a great deal have a rest having a pleasant bath here and enjoying the nature, is there anything better?

Enjoy !

Day 473 - 29/12/2014 : Cala de les Vaques

We encountered a new sight before reaching Sa Conca, this wonderful place is called 'Cala de les Vaques', whose translation in English could be Cows Cave, a strange name for a beach place, doesn't it?

The fact is the landscape is breathtaking, an unspoilt cave with a large stone stair on the left side to be able go down into the water and enjoy a pleasant bath, probably it's a best option than going to a crowded beach, why not?

Besides the landscape's beauty  you might find some hedgehogs near the rocks and try to catch them, be careful !!!

Day 472 - 28/12/2014 : Cala Pedrosa

Few minutes after reaching Llotja de la Senya blanca a warm and tiny cave can be found, this is Cala Pedrosa.

We came across suddenly and we were shocked and glad to have found such a beautiful and for us unexpected land. Cala Pedrosa is only 20 meters long therefore not too much people is suitable to find here, as it was.

Only a couple were taken a bath and we continued our walk to reach Sa Conca, would we find it soon?
